Dear Health Care Provider:
Patients who suffer from migraine know that the only thing better than interrupting an attack is preventing it. Ergomar® Sublingual Tablets 2 mg (ergotamine tartrate, USP) allow your migraine prone patients to fight back by helping to prevent and interrupt their migraine attacks.
Overall, ergotamine tartrate has been shown to be effective in controlling up to 70 percent of acute migraine attacks. Ergotamine tartrate has also been reported to interrupt an attack in 80 to 90 percent of cases when given near the onset of symptoms. Since Ergomar® is formulated as a sublingual tablet, it is convenient to take, it is not subject to first pass metabolism, and its absorption begins promptly after administration.
Ergomar® is a well established treatment for migraine and offers your patients:
- proven efficacy
- a fast acting, convenient sublingual delivery (absorbs within 15 minutes)
- non-narcotic
- competitive cost (priced substantially lower than "triptan" tablets)*
The most common side effects with Ergomar® include nausea and vomiting, weakness of the legs and pain in the limb muscles. Ergotamine tartrate is contraindicated in patients taking potent CYP3A4 inhibitors including protease inhibitors and macrolide antibiotics. Ergotamine tartrate is also contraindicated in patients with peripheral vascular disease, coronary heart disease, hypertension, impaired hepatic or renal function, severe pruritis and sepsis and in women who are, or may become pregnant. Long- term use may increase the risk of drug dependance and chronic daily administration may lead to fibrotic complications.
